As jobs abroad continues to offer much higher wages than in the Philippines, Filipinos continue to look overseas for job prospects.
Records from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) showed that certain skills widely available in Philippine labor force are in demand abroad. These jobs include domestic helpers, production workers, nurses, waiters and bartenders, cleaners, laborers, service workers, wiremen, plumbers and pipe fitters, welders and flame cutters.
Demand has been high that employment agencies have a hard time recruiting qualified applicants.
The Middle East and Asia are the traditional destinations of overseas Filipino workers, with Saudi Arabia remaining as the top destination.
“Most of them sa construction, talaga ang kailangan, tapos maintenance workers,” Azizzah Salim, president of Azizzah International Manpower Services, said.
Filipino workers are also in demand in the following countries:
- United Arab Emirates
- Singapore
- Hong Kong
- Qatar
- Kuwait
- Taiwan
- Malaysia
- Bahrain
- Italy
The POEA has advised applicants to verify whether the job order is legitimate and that recruiters are registered with government.
