Complaint Filed Vs Saudi Employer Who Forced OFW to Drink Bleach

Authorities in Saudi Arabia has filed a torture complaint against an employer who allegedly forced a Filipino worker to drink a household cleaning agent, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Thursday.

Agnes Mancilla, a 35-year-old native of Infanta, Quezon, sustained internal injuries from the incident and was placed under intensive care in April after being reportedly forced to drink bleach.

In a statement, the DFA said the case will escalate to a full trial and if found guilty, Mancilla’s employer may be sentenced to imprisonment as well as lashing and financial compensation.

Mancilla told authorities that her employer forced her to drink the chemical after she made a mistake in making tea.

Her employer also allegedly made her work for about 20 hours a day and only gave her coffee for meals.

When Consul General Edgar Badajos visited Mancilla at the hospital, Mancilla was emaciated and bore injuries in some parts of her body.
