PHL-Based Syrian National Arrested for Illegal Recruitment
A Syrian national based in the Philippines allegedly involved in illegal recruitment of Filipinos for work abroad has been arrested by members of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on Friday.
The CIDG identified the suspect as Adulkarim Mohammad Majed, 31, a resident of Imus, Cavite. A check at Philippine Overseas Employment Administration showed the man was not authorized to recruit and deploy workers abroad.
Majed was arrested in an entrapment operation inside an establishment in Ermita, Manila on Friday afternoon.
Recovered at the scene were two Philippine passports owned by Majed’s alleged victims whom he reportedly offered jobs in the United Arab Emirates.
The modus operandi was revealed by a tip from the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission after it rescued four victims in Mindanao also recruited by the suspect.
Majed is currently being detained by CIDG and faces charges of illegal recruitment.
