Filipina Helpers Detained in HK After Fight Inside Employer’s Home
Two Filipina domestic helpers were detained by Hong Kong police after engaging in a fight on Monday, October 1 that left one scalded and the other also injured.
The fight took place inside their employer’s flat in Yau Ma Tei district on a day marked as National Day holiday and allowed domestic workers a day off.
The two were sent to hospital by officers who responded to a 999 call about a fight in unit F on the 43rd floor of Tower 2 at The Harbourside at around 10 am. Their employers were off to Thailand for vacation when the incident happened.
A police spokesman said the officers arrested a 48-year-old maid surnamed Salazar and booked her for wounding. The other maid, surnamed Fajardo, 34, was initially booked for assault causing bodily harm.
Initial probe revealed that Fajardo attacked Salazar with a bottle and the latter fought back by grabbing a pot of hot water and dousing her opponent with it. Both were sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
Salazar and Fajardo were reportedly still in detention while police continued their investigation during press time. The two are expected to be charged in court after the investigation.
Filipina neighbors of the two said Salazar and Fajardo had been on an argument for some time although they were unsure about the reason.
