Filipino Science Teacher Honored in China

A Filipino teacher has received the highest honorary award accorded to expatriates in a city in China, the Department of Foreign Affairs has reported.

Lilian Albarico, a native of Dimataling, Zamboanga Del Sur, was the only female and first Filipino recipient among eight awardees who received the Tengwengge Friendship Award in Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province. She was recognized for her contribution in the field of education.

“The one that really pushed me to bring my students to help is that it will always make you feel good at the end of the day that you did something for other people, Ms. Albarico said in an interview with Nanchang Television.

Albarico currently teaches Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics at Nova Scotia Program, Sino-Canadian Department, Nanchang No. 2 High School, Nanchang City. The award recognizes foreign expatriates for their expertise in their fields of profession as well as their contribution to the social development of the city.

She arrived in Nanchang City in 2009.

The Tengwengge Pavillion Friendship Award was established by the Nanchang City Municipal Government in 2005 and awarded bi-annually to Nanchang-based expatriates in recognition of their accomplishments and social and cultural contribution to the City.
