Nursing Forum Set for Filipino Domestic Helpers in HK

A forum for Filipino nurses who are working as domestic workers in Hong Kong will be held to provide them with understanding on opportunities to work in their field, Labor Attaché Jalilo dela Torre said.

Dela Torre said the forum, to be held on Oct. 9, would start at 8:00am at the Bayanihan Centre in Kennedy Town.

“Our October 9 forum on alternative employment opportunities for nurses and other allied medical professionals will go on as scheduled at the Bayanihan Centre,” Dela Torre said.

“The forum on teachers will follow at 2 p.m., also at Bayanihan,” he added.

Another forum will be arranged in the future if Sunday’s turnout sees huge demand from members of the Filipino community in Hong Kong.

“Puno na kasi yung forum sa nurses. Kung may demand for another one, we will see kung kailan puwedeng bumalik ang speakers,” Dela Torre said

“Yung forum for teachers is about jobs for elementary and high school teachers in Australia,” he added.

Registered migration agents from Australia as well as representatives from the Philippine Association of Service Exporters Inc. will be present in the forum and provide briefing for nurses on employment opportunities in Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Qatar. However, the labor attaché was quick to note that no recruitment will take place in the forum, which was only intended to give Filipino nurses working as domestic helpers information about where they could get a good paying nursing job.

Dela Torre said members of PASEI went to Germany in September to check the job opportunities for Filipino nurses there. The entry level salary for nurses in Germany could reach P100,000 a month.

For those who want to take the nursing board exam here in Hong Kong, Dela Torre said such an exam could happen next year.
