Filipino-Australian Marlisa Punzalan Wins X-Factor Australia 2014
Another reason to be proud of the Filipino singing talent.
Fifteen-year-old Filipina-Australian singer Marlisa Punzalan became the winner of X-Factor Australia 2014 Monday. She beat two other finalists Brothers3 and Dean Ray in a three-way battle for top prize. Punzalan was coached by former Boyzone member Ronan Keating who looked emotional during the finale.
During the grand finale, Punzalan got three standing ovations when she sang her audition piece “Yesterday” by The Beatles, her winner’s single “Stand By You”, and a duet with Jessica Mauboy for “Never Be The Same Again”.
After the grand finale aired Sunday, Sydney-based Punzalan said that she has “loved every bit” of her journey.
Girl group Trill, composed of Filipina teenagers, was eliminated in the show’s first live show.
Solo performers Jal Joshua, Erin Miranda, Justin Vasquez and Mary Ann van der Horst, meanwhile, were eliminated during the elimination rounds.
Among the guest performers for Monday night finals were Guy Sebastian and Taylor Swift.
