A Filipino domestic helper jumped to her death from her employer’s flat right after being accused of theft and fired by her employer, EJ Insight reports.
The helper, only identified as Rimando, 47, was terminated by her employer, surnamed Tsang, 43, and was preparing to vacate her Ravana Garden flat in Shatin on Wednesday when then incident took place.
Rimando had been working for Tsang for more than a year.
The sacking was prompted after a woman, who was visiting the Tsang residence hours earlier, accused Rimando of stealing something from her handbag, Apple Daily said in a report.
Police were called in but left without finding any evidence of theft, and the woman could not identify what was missing from her bag.
Tsang fired Rimando later that day.
Rimando was later found on the building’s ground floor and brought to the hospital, where she was certified dead.
Eman Villanueva, Asian Migrants’ Coordinating Body spokesman, said he was shocked by the incident and lamented the typical case of lack of mutual trust between employer and helper.
He urged the police to investigate the woman’s allegation to find out if it drove Rimando to commit suicide.
