Why It’s Illegal to Carry Huge Sums of Money at Dubai’s Public Places

More UAE Updates

According to Dubai Police, it is illegal to carry cash or other expensive items valued at AED60,000 or above, a news report by Emirates247 said.

Lt. Col. Mohammed Al Bastaki, Head of Transport Security Department at Dubai Police explained that such act is illegal because it endangers the person who carries it in public. He cited the risk of being killed or robbed by criminals and thieves.

“We came across a case in which an Asian salesman of a jewellery shop in Dubai was carrying a bag of gold and diamonds worth millions of dirhams on his was to Dubai Metro. He was fined for breaking the law. Shops and individuals must assign specialised money transfer companies to carry these valuable items, and not carry them themselves in public transports,” he said.

Another case saw an Asian man carrying AED 165,000 in a bag. Authorities asked the man about the source of cash

Criminals or thieves might be monitoring these people and may rob them even inside the public transport, said Lt. Col. Al Bastaki.

“By carrying these valuable items or cash, they put themselves and others in danger,” he added.
