Balikbayan Box Companies Remind Senders About Banned Items

Representatives from cargo forwarding companies in the United Arab Emirates appealed to Filipino workers planning to send balikbayan box to be mindful of the items they ship back home.

The reminder comes in anticipation of the approaching holiday season when Filipinos typically stack up on gifts and grocery items and ship them to the Philippines.

The group sought audience from the Philippine Consul General in Dubai Paul Raymund Cortes and members of local media to increase the awareness concerning balikbayan boxes and accompanying guidelines from the Bureau of Customs in the Philippines.

Among the issues raised in the August 24 meeting at the PCG in Dubai is the lack of information among Filipinos on which items are prohibited inside cargo boxes to the Philippines.
