OFW in Saudi Arabia Dies While Waiting For Unpaid Wages, Benefits

An overseas Filipino worker has died in Saudi Arabia while waiting for his unpaid salary and benefits from his employer.

Larry Rancap, died in a hospital in Saudi due to lung cancer, according to his daughter Lennylene Rancap Ongkiatco as told to GMA News.

Rancap worked as an auto diesel mechanic for 25 years at a trading and contracting company in the Kingdom. Ongkiatco, however, said that despite the years of service that her father gave to the company, no assistance was extended to his family when he was confined in the hospital.

Ongkiatco added that the company also owes his father two years worth of salaries and end-of-contract benefits.

“Sabi po ng kumpanya wala daw po silang pera, kaya sobrang sakit po sa aming pamilya na pinabayaan po ang tatay ko. Talagang hindi po siya inasikaso. Pinabayaan siyang mamatay,” Ongkiatco said.

Meanwhile, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration has already reached out to Rancap’s family. The government is also working on the immediate repatriation of the OFW’s remains back to the Philippines.
