Filipinos in Germany Most Generous Long Distance Lovers
When it comes to sending money during Valentines Day, Filipinos based in Germany take the lead in terms of sending the highest value of remittances, money transfer company WorldRemit said on Monday.
According to WorldRemit’s data, Filipinos in Germany send on average $32.5 more than usual to their loved ones for Valentine’s Day. They are followed by Filipinos in Norway, who send an average of $24 more than other periods, and those in New Zealand, who send $12.5 more.
The data was based on analysis of WorldRemit’s top 10 recipient countries, specifically on, before or after Valentines Day week.
“Looking at this year’s data, we can see that Filipinos in Germany, Norway, and New Zealand are planning ahead and sending more money to their loved ones in the days leading up to Valentine’s Day,” said Alix Murphy, director of Mobile Partnerships at WorldRemit.
Citing data from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, cash remittances or money transfers coursed through banks from overseas-based Filipinos reached more than $24 billion from January to November 2016.
