Report: Four Filipino Nurses Abducted in Libya

Four Filipino nurses have been reportedly abducted from a hospital in the Libyan city of Sirte as several others were evacuated on Monday, a local official said.

Libyan affiliate group of Islamic State were tagged as responsible for the kidnapping, the official who belongs to a local 166 Batallion battling the forces of the IS affiliate told The Associated Press.

The kidnapping took place in the afternoon at Ibn Sina, Sirte’s main hospital as the official’s battalion helped evacuate remaining foreign medical staff in the hospital to the city of Misrata.

The kidnapping incident adds to the growing list of foreign nationals falling victims to abduction in recent weeks.

A bombing incident targetting the battalion took place earlier, resulting in death of one person and injury to another. No one immediately claimed responsibility of the boming as clashes between local military and militant Islamic State affiliate continues to sow fear among locals.

Libya has been gripped in turmoil since 2011 when long-time dictator Moammar Ghadafi was ousted.
