Three sectors leapfrogged over information technology as the highest paying industry for fresh graduates, as indicated in the latest Fresh Graduates Report of JobStreet Philippines data.

In a recent briefing held in Taguig City, Jobstreet said fresh graduates who entered the law and legal services industry were paid the most with an average monthly salary of P27,124 in 2016.

This was followed by the healthcare industry at P23,216, and the journalism field with P21,777.

Information technology, the previous year’s top paying sector for fresh college graduates slipped to fourth at P21,703, which also fell from P22,567 in 2015. The IT industry was also the most well-paid sector in 2014.

JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip A. Gioca said the IT sector was overtaken by other industries as employers are now putting more premiums in other industries, especially those that have specialization.

“What I think is happening is that the BPO (business process outsourcing) industry is putting more premium on people who have specialization or talents in journalism, healthcare, and law,” he told GMA News Online on the sidelines of the briefing.

“Marami na kasi sila. So, marami na tayong call center agents, marami na tayong telesales tsaka telemarketing,” he added.

Rounding up the top paying employment sectors are education (P21,457), actuarial science and statistics (P21,048) and training and development (P20,838), banking and financial services (P20,092); public relations and communications (P20,055); and advertising and media planning (P19,960).
