The number of Filipino nurses seeking to practice their profession in the United States is up 17 per cent in the first nine months this year compared to last year.
A total of 3,810 Filipinos took the National Council Licensure Examination for the first time from January to September 2015. This is higher than the 3,253 first-time examinees in the same period last year, according to Cebu Rep. Gerald Anthony Gullas Jr, vice chairman of the House committee on higher and technical education.
Gullas said United States National Council of State Boards of Nursing statistics indicate Filipino nurses remain the most active job seeekers in America.
Since 1995, a total of 161,181 nurses educated in the Philippines have taken the NCLEX for the first time, said the news portal.
