Applying as a skilled immigrant to come to Canada has never been easier than now. Using Express Entry you can find out if you may be eligible to immigrate to Canada. If you are, then you and other eligible applicants are pooled and ranked according to several factors. Top candidates then will be invited to apply and be able to apply for permanent residence.
Completing the profile, however, does not guarantee an invitation for permanent residence.
Express entry covers three economic immigration programs namely, the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program and the Canadian Experience Class.
Before you make an online profile, you might want to read this information first to see if you are eligible.
- You need to have your results from you language tests. For English, the approved language tests are Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program, specifically the CELPIP-General 2014 (CELPIP), and International English Language Testing System (IELTS). For French you can take the TEF: Test d’évaluation de français.
- If you took your education outside of Canada, your credentials will be assessed against Canadian Standards. This is not mandatory if you have recent work experience in Canada or in skilled trade. This also increases your chances of being invited.
- You also have to know the skill type of your work experience using Canadian standards or the National Occupation Classification.
Once you have all the requirements, you may build your online Express Entry account. You will be lead to MyCIC. The account will tell us about your identity, contact information, educational attainments in detail, work experience in detail, language, and dependents who will come with you to Canada.
To complete this part, you will need your passport and necessary travel documents, NOC job title and code, language test results, educational credential assessment if applicable, written job offer from Canada if applicable, provincial nomination, and personal reference code.
Follow the instruction to create your MyCIC account. You will also be given a MyCIC number to be used when you sign in. You can also input your personal reference code. You will also need to input your personal details and etc. you can exit anytime and your data will be saved until 60 days. After 60 days, if you haven’t submitted your data, you will have to start again.
Once you meet the requirements you will be placed into the Express Entry pool of candidates. A message to your MyCIC account will inform you. You will be scored and ranked according to system based factors. The higher your score, the more chances you will be invited. Once you are accepted it is recommended that you start getting your supporting documents for permanent residence.
You will only be invited if you will have a valid job offer, been nominated by province or territory or among the top ranks. If invited you will have 60 days to apply for online permanent residence. Process typically takes 6 months
