Filipino Teacher in Illinois Arrested For Sending Inappropriate Text to Minor

A Filipino science teacher in the U.S. state of Illinois was arrested on a felony charge of grooming.

According to Shorewood police, Lemuel Elechicon, 51, of Crest Hill, Illinois, sent inappropriate text messages to a 13-year-old girl. It was not confirmed if the girl was one of the teacher’s students. The girl’s parents alerted the police about the alarming texts Elechicon had sent to their daughter since January.

Elechicon, however, posted bail and was out on a $100,000 after he was charged with one felony count of grooming. Grooming occurs when a person knowingly uses a device or online service “capable of electronic data storage or transmission to seduce, solicit, lure or entice” a child, according to state law.

Elechicon has been placed on administrative leave and will remain on leave until the investigation is complete. Please understand, we cannot comment further at this point.”

Trinity Christian School’s website lists Elechicon as a sixth-grade sponsor and middle school teacher who has experience teaching fourth through eighth grades and specializes in “science and biblical creationism.”

Elechicon migrated from the Philippines when he was 12 years old.
