The US Coast Guard is searching within the Gulf of Mexico for a crew member of a luxury cruise liner who went missing around 1:30am Monday.
In a statement, the USCG said the Eighth District command center in New Orleans has received a report that the unidentified Filipino man, 39, was seen “approximately 170 miles southeast” of Galveston, Texas.
The man is reportedly part of the Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas’s Care Team, a report by NY Daily News said.
Global Corporate Communications Manager for the company Owen Torres provided further details on the matter in an email to NY Daily News.
“Early this morning, a crew member onboard Liberty of the Seas did not report for work as scheduled. A complete search of the ship was immediately initiated,” Torres wrote in the statement. “We notified the U.S. Coast Guard who are assisting us with the search efforts. At this time, unfortunately, our missing crew member has not yet been found.”
The luxury cruise liner is currently on a seven-night trip that departed on Sunday from Galveston, TX.
According to Torres, Liberty of the Seas is scheduled to continue on to Cozumel, Mexico, George Town, Grand Cayman and Falmouth, Jamaica.
