Filipina in Toronto Charged in Air Ticket Fraud
A Filipino woman is facing charges in Canada after authorities an investigation uncovered an airline ticket syndicate that scammed victims trying to book air tickets, in a report by Toronto Star.
Lorna Natalie Arcega, 38, was arrested Thursday and charged with 18 charges including fraud and unauthorized use of credit card data.
The Toronto police teamed up with the Travel Industry Council of Ontario and the joint investigation discovered that fraud that allegedly scammed victims out of an estimated $150,000.
Victims approached Arcega whom they believed to be an authorized seller, and used their credit cards to buy the tickets they never got to received. Soon customers discovered unauthorized purchases on their credit card statements.
Police said the Travel Industry Council of Ontario also laid charges against Arcega under the Travel Industry Act of Ontario, and she is set to appear in court on September 23. Authorities believe there are more victims they request to come forward.
