UK Hospital Recruits 73 Nurses From Philippines

SEVENTY three nurses have been recruited by Salisbury District Hospital from the Philippines.

The hiring is in line with the hospital’s ongoing campaign to add manpower. A team of four, including specialist nursing staff and human resources manager, in coordination with a professional agency, recently visited the Philippines to conduct the interview and selection process.

According to Salisbury Journal, the nurses are scheduled to start arriving in November and December following further clinical and English language tests, as part of their Nursing and Midwifery Council registration process.

Hospital chief executive Peter Hill said they are not expecting all of the 73 to start right away for various reasons, “but we are expecting probably around 50 to do so.”

Citing their good command of the English language, the experienced nurses have been recruited to areas we currently find difficult to recruit to such as theatres, elderly care and the spinal injuries unit where their skills and training are particularly suited, Hill said.
