6 Months in Jail for Filipino in Abu Dhabi For Child Pornography
A Filipino man has been sentenced to prison after he was found guilty of possessing child pornography and distributing them.
In a report by Khaleej Times, the man, in his 30s, reportedly downloaded pornographic films using proxy software and sent them to mobile phones of children below 11 years old, as well as some adults.
He was caught with hundreds of child pornography films on his computer.
Abu Dhabi Appeal Court has upheld an earlier ruling by the Criminal Court of First Instance that handed down the sentence to the man from the Philippines after he was found guilty of possessing child pornography and distributing it to young children.
The court also fined the defendant AED50,000 on top of the jail sentence.
About 200 pornographic films were found in the man’s phones and computer, and he had sent it to many phone numbers that belonged to small children, according to police investigations.
Prosecutors charged the Filipino man with downloading and possessing child pornography materials and promoting them to children, which violates the United Arab Emirates cyberlaw. The lw states that anyone who intentionally possess pornographic material involving minors using a website or any method, faces a fine from AED150,000 up to AED1 million or a jail sentence from a minimum of six months to three years or both.
