A Filipino salesman who lost his job after 16 years working in the United Arab Emirates has won the Dubai Shopping Festival raffle draw.
In a news report by Gulf News, Joel Gutierrez, 43, faced a tough break when his employer notified of the termination of his services in February, with an unemployed wife, two young children and AED80,000 loan to pay.
But even with tight budget, Gutierrez managed to buy tickets for the DSF raffle.
“In fact, I bought four this month,” he recalled, after winning a luxury car plus AED150,000 cash on the first day of the Festival.
Not surprisingly, the Filipino expat opted to claim the clash equivalent of the Infinity car, and expect the total cash windfall to AED300,000 or nearly P4 million.
“This will now help me build a new and happy life for me and my family. I will use the money to invest in a grocery store back home.”
Since its inception in 1996, DSF has been offering life-changing prizes, and the festival’s 22nd edition, which started on 26 December, is no different with daily raffle draws offering shoppers the opportunity to win incredible prizes.
