The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration assisted the arrival of two Filipino workers who arrived from Saudi Arabia at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Sunday.

The arriving Filipino workers include a domestic helper who escaped alleged employer abuse, and a stroke survivor who became an undocumented OFW in the Kingdom.

The domestic helper, only identified as Fatima, was paralyzed and confined to a hospital for seven months after jumping out from her room in the second floor of her employer’s apartment to escape abuse and maltreatment.

“Binubogbog po ako ng amo ko. Tumalon po ako mula sa bintana ng tinutulugan ko nang tumakas ako,” Fatima said. Authorities ruled her escape as a suicide attempt and impeded her effort to retutn home until a later decision favored her to fly back to the Philippines.

Mario de Guzman, became an undocumented overseas Filipino worker for five years. He was penalized for failure to comply with amnesty program intended for undocumented migrant workers. The Philippine Consulate in Saudi Arabia managed to get the SAR15,000 penalty waived. De Guzman paid a debt of SAR6,000 before his return to the Philippines.

The OWWA currently has custody of Fatima while De Guzman had been turned over to his family.
