{"id":694,"date":"2015-05-27T04:34:04","date_gmt":"2015-05-27T04:34:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pinoy-ofw.com\/saudi-arabia\/?p=694"},"modified":"2024-07-07T02:04:40","modified_gmt":"2024-07-07T02:04:40","slug":"ofws-have-the-right-to-keep-their-own-passports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pinoy-ofw.com\/saudi-arabia\/694-ofws-have-the-right-to-keep-their-own-passports.html","title":{"rendered":"OFWs Have the Right to Keep  Their Own Passports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh reiterates to all Filipino workers in Saudi Arabia that, under Saudi and Philippine law, they have the right to keep and hold on to their Philippine passports while working in Saudi Arabia.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Philippine passport is considered to be the property of the Republic of the Philippines and only the bearer has the right to keep it in his custody.<\/p>\n<p>The Embassy firmly reminds companies and employers in Saudi Arabia who continue to keep their foreign workers\u2019 passports, as a matter of practice and against the workers\u2019 will, that they are violating Saudi law, specifically Council of Ministers Resolution No. 166 dated 12\/04\/1421H (14 July 2000) which clearly states that \u201cevery employee has the right to keep his passport in his custody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ofwsaudi.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/philippine_passport1.webp\" alt=\"Philippine passport\" width=\"600\" height=\"428\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-354\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pinoy-ofw.com\/saudi-arabia\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/10\/philippine_passport1.webp 600w, https:\/\/www.pinoy-ofw.com\/saudi-arabia\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/10\/philippine_passport1-300x214.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated to the Embassy this week that this rule remains in effect and that any OFW whose passport has been kept by their employer has a right to complain to the Ministry of Labor or the police.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh reiterates to all Filipino workers in Saudi Arabia that, under Saudi and Philippine law, they have the right to keep and hold on to their Philippine passports while working in Saudi Arabia.
