120 Aussie Study Grants for Filipinos

The Australian government has launched the 2012 edition of a sholarship program for Filipino public officials and achievers in an event that coincided with the launching of the book “Endeavours of Excellence: 60 years of Australian Scholarship in South and Southeast Asia.”

Andrew Byrne, Australian embassy’s charge d’affaires, said that at least 120 post-graduate scholarships will be provided to high-achieving Filipinos to study in leading Australian universities starting in 2012.

Australia has infused over P2 billion to basic educational program in the Philippines, Byrne said during the book launching held at Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City.

The scholarships come in two streams: development awards and endeavor awards.

Applications for development awards, scholarships to develop leadership skills, are open until May 31, 2011.

Applications for endeavour awards are open until June 30. These are merit-based scholarship program, providing opportunities for Filipino citizens to undertake post-graduate study and research and professional development activities in any academic field in Australia.

The awards cover travel, study and living expenses for study at Australia’s world-class universities. Awardees will also join the 1000-strong member Philippines-Australia Alumni Association.
