Domestic Worker Dies in HK Traffic Accident

A Filipina domestic worker died after she was hit by a car while crossing the street in Hong Kong on October 28.

According to Hong Kong News, the 55-year-old helper had injuries in the head, arms, hips, and legs and was unconscious when she was brought to the Prince of Wales Hospital and was brought to the Prince of Wales Hospital where she died early next day.

“At about 11 p.m. last night, a private car driven by a 38-year-old man was travelling along Ting Kok Road towards Tai Mei Tuk,” a police statement said.

“When approaching Shuen Wan Lei Uk, it reportedly knocked down the 55-year-old woman who was crossing the road,” it added.

Welfare Attache Virsie Tamayao said the Philippine Consulate General had already informed the helper’s family about what happened and that she also had a cousin working here in Hong Kong.

An investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North is underway.

“Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information to offer is urged to contact the investigating officers at 3661-3818 or 3661-3819,” the police said.
