5 Filipino Seafarers Injured in Brawl With Indonesians in South Africa

Five Filipino seafarers were reportedly injured in a brawl in Cape Town, South Africa, according to ABS-CBN News citing the Department of Foreign Affairs.

DFA Assistant Secretary Elmer Cato confirmed the incident after he received information from Ambassador to South Africa Joseph Gerald Angeles.

The Filipino seafarers reportedly figured in an altercation with Indonesian seafarers that led to a brawl on Friday. Motive of the incident remains unclear.

Three of the Filipino seafarers sustained serious physical injuries and are still confined in the intensive care unit of a local hospital.

Honorary Consul in Cape Town Steven Chaimowitz has visited the victims and is scheduled to visit their employment agencies.

The embassy is still getting further information over the incident.
