Kuwait Human Rights Group: Use Domestic Staff Not Maid, Servant

A rights group in Kuwait has expressed bewilderment over the use of ‘inhumane terms’ to refer to migrant workers in the country.

The Kuwait Society of Human Rights said the use of ‘servants’ or ‘housemaids’ is considered derogatory and urged the use of ‘domestic workers’ instead.

In a press statement, the society clarified that domestic workers are not servants, but are domestic employees and the terms ‘servants’ or ‘maids’ were historically used derogatively towards those who take p domestic related jobs despite playing a significant role in the house of a Kuwaiti national.
