POEA Shuts Down Agency for Illegal Recruitment
The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has shut down the office of an agency in Pasay City for illegal recruitment.
POEA staff implemented the closure order of Margaphil Technical Institute located at Unit E & J, Violeta Court, 2814 F.B.Harrison St., Pasay City on April 30.
Caught in the act were staff of the agency engaged in recruitment of factory workers, welders, poultry, furniture and food processing staff for male workers and housekeeping, electronics, food and beverage positions for female recruits. The jobs are reportedly posted in Japan.
Applicants are allegedly charged between P25,000 to P35,000 which is purportedly for Japanese language training and arrangement of online interview with a prospective employer.
Romeo Reyes, who claims to be a board member of Margaphil is reportedly a Pasay City barangay official. Reyes defended Margaphil, saying that the aim of the company is to provide jobs for Filipinos as TESDA-accredited institution.
Personnel charged with illegal recruitment are Audrey Buena Cruz, Rowena Alcanzo (Weng), Zenaida Molino, Patricia Samia, Wilson Montejo, Relibeth Rendin, and Romeo Reyes.
