Filipino Caregiver Eduardo Escalante Killed By Patient in Alaska
A Filipino caregiver was shot dead by his own patient Tuesday evening in the United States state of Alaska.
The victim was identified as Eduardo Escalante, 63.
The shooting suspect was identified as Paul Miller, 51, a patient of Escalante. Miller dialled 911 Tuesday evening and admitted to shooting his Filipino caregiver. Responding police found Miller waiting outside the facility at 309 E. 24th Ave., near Fireweed Lane with a semi-automatic handgun while the body of Escalante was found with multiple wounds to his neck, arm and torso. While a motive has yet to be determined, Miller was taken into custody and charged with first and second degree murder.
Escalante and his wife immigrated from the Philippines only in March and were the sole caregivers at the Midtown assisted living home, according to Anchorage Police Department Sgt. Michael Couturier.
“This is a very unfortunate incident,” Couturier said. “We are trying to determine what the motivation was and we are trying to determine where that fire arm came from.”
