It was supposed to be a fresh start for a Filipino woman who just separated from her husband.
Jovi Pilapil and new beau Keith Collins, who found each other over the Internet, are both parents who gave love another chance.
But instead, their first date at a Korean barbecue restaurant at Westfield, Hornsby turned out deadly as Pilapil’s former partner came to the scene and sttacked the couple.
Alexander Villaluna, 44, Pilapil’s ex-husband and father of their only child, fatally stabbed Collins in full view of horrified fellow diners. An eyewitnesses said he saw a man drive a big knife downwards near Mr Collin’s collarbone and pushed the blade across his chest. The man then slashed Pilapil in the stomach as she tried to flee.
The suspect allegedly went after her calmly, walking past several other restaurants before settling into a nearby fountain. Villaluna reportedly went back to Kang Nam BBQ restaurant where Mr Collins lay dead before a police sergeant arrested him.
Pilapil, who like Villaluna worked in a aged care home, was brought to Royal North Sore Hospital with chest and arm wounds.
Villaluna was brought to Hornsby Local Court and charged with murder and attempted murder.
He did not apply for bail and the matter was adjourned to Central Local Court on May 26.
