OFWs Warned Against Becoming Drug Mules

Manila, Philippines (AHN) – The Philippine Foreign Affairs Department is once more warning Filipino overseas workers not to accept offers of money from fellow travelers in exchange for carrying luggage. The government last month created a task force to stop international drug syndicates from using overseas workers as couriers.

The department issued its latest warning after receiving a report from the Philippine embassy in Tehran. Amb. Generoso Senga said there is a growing number of overseas workers accused of drug trafficking after falling prey to the scheme.

Early this month, Iranian authorities arrested two Filipinos for trying to smuggle drugs into the country.
