John Leonard Monterona, Migrante-Middle East’s regional director said that the the victim drove a dump truck along a slippery narrow road and lost control before falling into the ravine in Al Baha in the southern region of Saudi Arabia. As of press time, the victim remains in a morgue in Al Jarous, Al Baha, Saudi Arabia.

Citing information from the Jeddah chapter of Migrante, the victim is between 25 and 28 years old, from Anda, Pangasinan, was working for Conar Company.

Monterona said his group has already informed the Philippine consulate general in Jeddah about the incident so that it can validate the information, inform the casualty’s next of kin, and arrange for the early repatriation of his remains and belongings.

The Philippine Consulate Office behind Ezzadin Tago acknowledged receipt of his e-mail, and replied that he would dispatch a staff member to look into the report. Migrant is also asking the consulate general to assist the victim’s family in claiming benefits and assistance coming from OWWA.

Monterona observed that the winter season makes it very difficult for drivers in Saudi as fog covers the road, especially on the hinterlands of the kingdom.

“We are urging fellow OFWs to take extra care when driving especially during winter as road is slippery when wet and covered by thick mist. At job sites, we are always reminded to think and act safe by our safety officers,” he cautioned.
