The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration 1 (OWWA1) has opened the 2012-2013 scholarships to active OWWA member Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) with beneficiaries/dependents currently enrolled or graduates of fourth year high school.
According to OWWA1 labor communication officer Amapola Z. Villar, the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) offers a four to five year baccalaureate course in any institution accredited by the Commission on Higher Education on the condition that they pass the qualifying exam and should be one among the top 100 passers nationwide.
Another condition, Villar said, aspirants must not have taken any previous vocational courses or college degree.
OFWs who are active OWWA members, either sea-based or land-based, are those that are actively working on-site, on vacation, or those whose contracts have been earlier terminated but membership has not expired.
Part of the scholarship grant is a financial assistance worth Php 30,000 per semester or Php 60,000 per year, and Php 90,000 per year in trimester schools provided they have complied with the scholarship agreement.
The scholarship grant shall continue until completion of the course regardless of the status of OFW membership, Villar added.

Good PM po. Ask ko lang po if saan po pwede mkakuha ng application form ? At kung meron po ba na specific courses na inooffer? Lahat po ba ng schools ay under ng OWWA tulad po ng Lasalle, UST, or Mapua? At saan po ba magtatake ng exam? Thanks po.

Ako po ay anak ng isang OFW, graduating student na po ako sa highschool at nais ko po sanang mag apply sa scholarship na inyong inaalok,kami po ay isang mahirap na pamilya.Wala pong trabaho ang aking tatay ngaun at ang nanay ko lang po ang kumukayod o naghahanap ng perang pampaaral sa aming magkakapatid.Tatlo po kaming magkakapatid at ang panganay po ay nasa kolehiyo,kumuha po siya ng kursong electrical engineering.dahil po sa pag-aalala ko sa aking nanay na nasa ibang bansa na naghihirap upang mapag-aral lang kaming magkakapatid.naisipan ko pong magsideline habang nag-aaral,para lang po makatulong sa aking magulang.natatakot po ako na baka hindi ako makapag aral ng kolehiyo,,sapagkat malaki po ang problema ng aking magulang ngayon at baka makakaapekto ito sa aking pagtungtong sa kolehiyo.Ang nais ko lang po ay makapagtapos at makahanap ng maganda at matinong trabaho. matulungan ko po ang aking mga magulang,lalong lalo na po ang aking nanay na nagsasakripsyo,naghihirap, at nakikipagsasapalaran sa ibang bansa…. Good day. Pwde ko po ba mlaman kng on going pa yung scholarship program nyo? For 2012-2013? Kse syang po ung benefit. Both my parents ay ngtratrabho sa abroad. Pero khi po gnun e dpa po nmin mkyanan.
