The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) recently opened the search for the 2010 Model overseas Filipino worker (OFW) of the Year Award (MOFYA).
OWWA 2 director Robert Bassig said the annual MOFYA search is for Filipino migrant workers who have managed the impact of overseas employment and maintained strong family ties.

Nominees for the MOFYA are families with either a land-based or sea-based OFW who can meet the following criteria: four (4) years overseas employment, must continue to maintain a family in the Philippines, supports the education of a child/ family member/s; known as a solid and stable family in the community; and financial stability.
According to the MOFYA selection criteria, nominees are expected to have a “wholesome” family (50%), involved in the community (20%), and successful in managing their family finances (20%) and the education of its members (10).
The candidates must be endorsed or nominated by any national government agency, non-government organization and private institutions.
Bassig said that regional candidates can still be nominated but those who have reached the national level will no longer be eligible to join the search.
Bassig added that there will be one winning OFW family from the land-based sector and one from the sea-based sector from the region who will join the 34 regional winners from the 17 regions nationwide.
